A Quick Take on the Claw SM90
At first glance, the Claw SM90’s design strikes one as simple yet practical. It has a lightweight build which makes it easy to carry around. Despite the relatively affordable price, the headphones do not feel cheap in one’s hands and the overall finish provides a reassuring sense of durability without trying too hard to look flashy. As soon as we received the SM90, it went straight to our video editor for the ultimate test. His work requires absolute sharpness in sound and a means of being cut off from the ambient noise.
He assured me that the SM90 excelled on both fronts. Comfort is fairly good, especially for short to medium listening sessions which translates to an upper limit of a few hours at the desk. The fit is light on the head and easy on the ears thanks to the soft earcups. It does not cause much fatigue but for very long use one might need a quick break. The cable is sturdy and dependable, which is a small but important detail when it comes to daily use over long durations.
Sound quality is where these headphones showcase their value. The mids are clear, so vocals and instruments sound natural and easy to enjoy. Treble has enough sharpness to bring out details in songs. The bass is punchy and adds good energy but for some tracks we feel the performance could have been slightly better. Do note that this feedback is from a professional. A casual/amateur user is unlikely to complain. It uses 50 mm Neodymium drivers and offers a 3.5-mm jack for connectivity along with an adapter that can connect it to audio interfaces and DJ turntables. It is also worth noting that it comes with a fabric pouch for storage.
Overall, the CLAW SM90 is a balanced package that offers clean sound, decent comfort, and a simple yet robust design. It won’t compete with high-end headphones, but at this price, it’s definitely worth considering. We would easily recommend this to someone who is beginning a career in the field of sound because so far, our experience has been largely positive and hassle-free.
